In the basement of the church of Sarenrae, he found the holy symbol of a priest who lived long, long ago, of a god now dead. But he could not decide what archetype of hero he wanted to be - a great knight in shining plate mail, a powerful wizard in a robe or a holy priest? His natural abilities lended him well to the idea of a warrior, but he was not satisfied with this. Daven was enthralled by these stories, and wished to emulate them. One of the most common sights at the orphanage was a traveling bard who worshipped Sarenrae, and frequently told of stories of great heroes from the past, epic tails of chivalry and virtue. Daven and Kyra stood together against the bullies, and bonded, becoming the best of friends. One of the children in the orphanage he especially bonded with: a young girl about his age named Kyra, who was descended from a lycanthrope and had feral features. Daven was horribly scarred by these taunts, and in an attempt to end the mocking took on one of their insults as his name: Hellborn. They ruthlessly mocked Daven and the other children, insulting his demonic heritage and appearance. They raised with Daven several other foundlings, most of them strange and odd, like him.īut while the church of Sarenrae was accepting of Daven, the local children of his township were not. The church of Sarenrae took in many orphans, and believed in the power of redemption - they took him in and raised him like they would any other, trying to prevent him from falling into the grasp of evil. ![]() The acolytes healed him and blessed him, allowing him to react to positive energy more positively than others. Daven was found on the steps of a church of Sarenrae soon after his birth, abandoned by his mother for his red skin, eyes, horn and tail, likely due to some long ago interbreeding with a demon in his family try. ![]()
